The robots with the ability to work like a human and behave like a human are already present. Now it’s the turn of a robot that can entertain like an expert drummer, and this Robot Drummer with AI has been launched. The humanoid robot, which can play the drums with impressive accuracy, has just been launched, and it makes a perfect combination of technology and music. It shows how machines can easily learn complex rhythms like an expert drummer or artist. Robot Drummer with AI is revolutionising music by learning complex rhythms like Linkin Park and AC/DC with human-like precision, and what is the future of robotic live music performance?
How Did the Robot Drummer with AI Start?
The idea of robotic AI Musician technology started with a chat between Loris Roveda and Asad Ali Khan at the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence. They were discussing that if the robots can also do some creative things that are not much related to the technology, then the thought of a robot drummer with AI came to mind.
The drumming was chosen because it’s a very creative field full of precise movements and rhythms. Working with researchers from Politecnico di Milano and SUPSI, they were able to create a simulated version of the robot using the G1 robot from Unitree to copy the movements and rhythms of an actual expert drummer. They are trying to build a future of robotic live music performance.
Teaching Robot Drummer with AI
The team used reinforcement learning to teach the Robot Drummer with AI. The team turned drum songs into a sequence of timed drum hits called a “Rhythmic Contact Chain.” The robot starts practising these sequences in simulated steps, and then it gradually improves the coordination and overall timing. Robot Drummer with AI was first trained on 30 Rock, jazz songs, and metal. After teaching the robot all things and making it all like a robot with humanoid robot drumming skills, the test was conducted. The tests revealed that it can behave like an expert human drummer.
Robot Drummer with AI in Action
The robot showed humanoid robot drumming skills by songs like “In the End” by Linkin Park and The Police’s “Roxanne.” Not all performances were perfect; some were the best, and some shows need a lot of improvement with this particular rhythm. Robot Drummer with AI in action, but it still needs a lot of improvement and changes so it can easily play any song like an expert.

What’s Next for Robot Drummer with AI
The robot drummer is a representation of robot drumming with human-like techniques and can play much better than an expert with a few improvements. If we talk about Robot Drummer with AI’s current performances, we can’t say it’s fully expert now, like a human expert, but it sets the place for improvements. As AI gets better, the future of robotic live music performance will be clearer to see.
People are also questioning this thing; they are like, can robots capture creativity and emotions like humans? People like seeing humans playing the drums with enthusiasm, and it sends shivers down the body. Will robots ever be able to create the same environment while playing? This can only be seen when the robot gets a chance to play publicly in front of a big audience after some improvement. It will be interesting to see how human drummers vs. robot drummers will compete with each other.
